
The Podkarpackie Voivodeship is a unique place for people who love hiking. Picturesque landscape, unpolluted nature, the grid of marked out trails as well as a number of hostels and agritourism farms encourage to take up this form of tourism. Hiking in the region, one can easily noticed that the area has been the place where the nations, cultures and religions met since ages.
Therefore, the Podkarpacki Voivodeship offers unique and one of a kind atmosphere and a variety of cultural heritage. A number of huge and small churches, orthodox churches, synagogues, palaces, castles and manor houses and different architectural monuments prove the richness, wealth and beauty of this particular Polish region. The tourists trails marked out in the region wend their ways both through the mountains (Beskid Niski, Bieszczady) and through highlands (Pogórze Przemyskie, Dynowskie, Strzyżowskie) as well as through flatlands of Kotlina Sandomierska and Roztocza. Those who love and admire mountainous scenery may choose among others a 180 km long part of a main Beskidzki trail named after K. Sosnowski (red trail). It wends its way through the most interesting spots in the Beskid and the Bieszczady. Hikers following this trail will not only be astonished by the unique monuments and relics of Dukla, Iwonicz Zdrój, Rymanów or by unforgettable views over the Bieszczadzkie Połoniny, but also will have an opportunity to find out about unique species of bieszczadzka fauna and flora. The so called blue trail goes through the Wododziało Karpackie along the border of the country and leads to the Kremenaros summit where the borders of Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine meet. Equally interesting and enchanting are the trails leading to Pogórze Przemyskie and Dynowskie. The niebieski szlak (blue trail) from Sanok to Przemyśl is as long as more that 100 km. It wends its way through the most interesting and absorbing spots of Pogórze Przemyskie National Natural Park and following it one gets among others to Kalwaria Pacławska, Arłamów or to Krasiczyn where one can visit the renaissance Castle once owned by the family of Krasicki which now belongs to the most precious of Polish monuments form that period in Poland.
Around Przemyśl tourists can visit and admire the fortress trail which shows the remains after the Przemyśl fortress. At the beginning of the 20th century it was the biggest and the most modern fortress in Europe and it constituted the main defensive spot of Austria Empire. In the central and northern part of the Voivodeship the trails goes through flat terrain. Around Rzeszów town goes the 100 km long roundabout trail marked in yellow allowing tourists to get to know the town. Extensive terrain that lies between the Wisła River (the Vistula), and the San River in the northern part of the Voivodeship own a rich history. One can learn about it better while hiking the trail along the “Błękitny San” from Sandomierz to Leżajsk.
